South Perth Foreshore: Perth's Best Skyline Views

Looking for the best view of Perth? Some of the city's most iconic skyline views aren't in the city at all - they're right across the water on the South Perth foreshore!

What's All the Fuss About?

The South Perth foreshore stretches along the Swan River and takes in Sir James Mitchell Park, South Perth Esplanade Reserve, Mill Point Reserve and Clydesdale Reserve.

  • That skyline: The City of South Perth calls it an iconic tourist destination with views of Perth city across the river - one look and you'll see why.

  • Space to play: Wide open lawns are made for a kick of the footy, a game of cricket or flying a kite, with walking and cycle paths running along the water.

  • Everything you need: Picnic tables, barbecues, toilets, cafés, outdoor exercise equipment and four children's playgrounds.

Why You'll Love It

It's the kind of place locals use every day, which is exactly what makes it so relaxing.

  • Scented Gardens: Tucked away at the western end of Sir James Mitchell Park near Mends Street, they're a quiet escape for a sit and a read.

  • The lakes: Another peaceful spot sits near Douglas and Hurlingham Avenues.

  • River access: Dip your toes in at the Coode Street beaches, Mends Street beach or Mill Point near the Narrows Bridge.

Hop Across the River

The foreshore is just a short ferry ride from the CBD.

  • Transperth ferry: Ferries link Mends Street Jetty and Elizabeth Quay in around 10 minutes, running every 15 minutes from September to June and every 30 minutes from June to September. Timetables can change, so check Transperth before you go.

  • Free Sundays: Every Sunday, Transperth bus, train and ferry travel is free for SmartRider and contactless payment users.

  • Perth Zoo: Just 500 metres from Mends Street Jetty, via Windsor Park with its restored "Ferry Tram" and public art. The zoo is open 9am to 5pm every day of the year.

Make a Day of It

String a few favourites together for a perfect South Perth day.

  • Morning: Wander the riverside path and grab a coffee at a foreshore café.

  • Midday: Head up to Perth Zoo, then come back down for a barbecue lunch on the lawns.

  • Evening: Stay for sunset and watch the city lights come on across the water - bring a blanket!

  • Accommodation: Stay in South Perth, just two minutes' walk from the foreshore, and that skyline view becomes part of your morning walk.

The South Perth foreshore is Perth at its most relaxed - picnic lawns, river breezes and a postcard view of the city that changes from sunrise to sunset. Whether you're here for a jog, a picnic or a ferry ride, it's a spot you'll keep coming back to.
